She wore her special birthday shirt made my Cindy (get one of your own HERE).
Then she opened gifts. Her gifts all had a music theme. She got some musical instruments, a microphone, DVD and CD to sing and dance along with. She really likes the shaker eggs, and playing duets with Daddy.
After gifts we headed down to the River Market for our first stop, Babycakes, a local cupcakery. Babycakes has become a yearly birthday tradition for Sofie.

With lots of fun things to look at inside.
Sofie was a lot more interested in looking around this year, a little too interested in the ceramic plates. And she didn't want to give up the "500 Cupcakes" book.
Then came time to choose which cupcake to get. Too hard. We got three different kinds to share.

After we picked out our cupcakes, we moved on to the main birthday event.

Eventually the pool fun did have to come to an end.
Much to Sofie's dismay.
Don't worry. The pigtails recovered just fine. Oh, and Sofie did too.
We had Sofie's birthday party on the Saturday after her birthday. Sofie is absolutely nuts for Dora and Boots. So we had a Dora birthday party.
Sofie dressed like Dora, and her beloved monkey, Hoohoo, dressed like Boots.
Oooh! More birthday fun!!
We had Mexican food and a Dora and Boots ice cream cake.
Nanas and Papas, Aunts and Uncles, and Great-Grandpa Bill and Eva joined us to celebrate.

Sofie loved kicking and throwing the balloons, and even getting bonked in the head with balloons too.

Sofie blew out her candle (with just a little bit of help).
And then...ate some birthday cake for the first time!!! Yay!!

Excellent photo images, Jen! It looks like a lot of fun. I couldn't help noticing the secondary theme that was also going on (KU shirts)! I wish you all a successful CDH blood drive today. I'm proud to tell you that I just received my 8 gal. pin earlier this month. Whew! That's a lot of blood letting through the years. I hope you have lots of blood donors come in today.

Thanks! This new layout was surprisingly quick to do - less than an hour. I wrote down most of the coding that I did and emailed it to myself, so I'd remember how to do it in the future. So if there's any feature you're interested in let me know and I'll send you the code. I am pretty much head over heals for lightroom (have the trial) - now to scrape together the $300 for the real deal. How many adobe products can I collect?!? ;-0
What a fun birthday!!! I know she had a blast. I can't get over how long her hair is getting and what a big girl she's becoming.
