22 Months Update

Wow!! Seriously?!? 22 months? I guess so. She'll be two whole years old in two months. Crazy! That's definitely Big Girl status. But until then, she is still my wee little baby. And I haven't posted an update on my wee little baby since 19 months. What can I say? It was hard to follow the walking update. And then all these fun holidays happened. And well, here we are.

I'm following a new format for these updates - EAT.SLEEP.PLAY.LEARN. Take One...

EAT - Status: Medium-Well
She eats 200+ cal meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plus she has a small snack after her nap. She drinks water with her meals and with her snacks. She drinks whole milk at naptime and bedtime, 6-9 oz. servings. It's still warmed, but...

No more thickener (since Thanksgiving)!! And we rarely use Pediasure now! Yay for normal drinking habits! Now if we could just get her to drink milk at mealtimes instead of naptime and bedtime. I cringe for the health of her teeth!

Speaking of her teeth, she's had 16 teeth for quite a while now - eight on bottom, eight on top.

She feeds herself most of the time. She can feed herself with a spoon, and she's getting better at it. The other night I was putting her food out on the table for dinner while she was sitting in her high chair. I brought her YoBaby, along with some other foods, and a spoon. I went back into the kitchen to get her water, and when I came back, she had pulled the yogurt over in front of her, peeled back the top, stirred it up, and started feeding herself with her spoon. And she hadn't spilled any of it. I was so shocked, I just said, "Wow, Sofie!" And she smiled and said, "guhjoh." Which I swear meant "good job," although I am a little biased on her genius status.

Favorite Foods:
  • mixed berry nutrigrain bars
  • hard poached egg yolks
  • scrambled eggs
  • marshmallow mateys cereal (with or without milk)
  • YoBaby
  • any kind of fruit puree
  • sweet potatoes
  • hotdogs
  • macaroni and cheese
  • chicken nuggets
  • taquitos
  • cheese (mild cheddar and mozzarella)
  • goldfish
  • pretzels
  • veggie straws
  • french fries

SLEEP - Sofie sleeps 8p-8a with an afternoon nap from 1-4. I try to keep her naptime set from 1-4. If she won't sleep, she can have a toy or a book for quiet time, but 99% of the time she falls right to sleep. Having this set naptime, has done wonders for her behavior. She also eats better and goes to bed easier at night with a regular naptime.

PLAY - If Sofie's not sleeping, she's going. She loves to play and explore. It's so great to see her getting to be a normal kid now. After breakfast in the morning we color or do other art projects. Then she has free play time for a while.

After she runs off some steam, I try to organize her play a little with one toy or activity at a time. Each has a beginning, middle, and end, and she helps clean up each one. I hope this will start preparing her for preschool. After her nap she has some free play time until dinner and again in the evening until bedtime.

LEARN - Sofie's had a learning explosion since 19 months. It really seems like once she got that pesky walking thing down, she could really focus on learning everything else. Between 19 and 20 months, her regularly used vocabulary went from the same 8 words she'd been using for a few months, to 20-30 words. She understands pretty much everything we say or ask her to do. We can ask her to repeat words, and she'll repeat most things we ask her to say.

Vocab:
  1. hi
  2. bye
  3. hello (sounds like herrwo- when answering her phone)
  4. Dada
  5. Mama
  6. Lola
  7. Gigi (Gracie)
  8. Nana
  9. Papa
  10. Mimi (Aimee)
  11. Kish (Kris)
  12. Dora
  13. Boots
  14. Elmo (sounds like memoo)
  15. no
  16. uh oh

  18. uh huh (during phone convos)
  19. huh uh (during phone convos)
  20. oh! (during phone convos)
  21. Boo!
  22. Brrrr! (She says this after baths when she's cold)
  23. go
  24. this
  25. that
  26. eat
  27. cheese
  28. egg
  29. bah bah
  30. fish (sounds like ish)
  31. dog
  32. duck
  33. baby
  34. burp

Phrases:
  1. ehr go (here you go)
  2. whasattt? (what's that)

Signs:
  1. eat
  2. help
  3. more
  4. all done

I couldn't leave out the silly faces she makes.

And the laughs.

Oh, the laughs.

I just love those laughs.

(not sure what happened to my previous comment-there was an error, so I am trying again) :)
She is doing so well and getting so big and I think she is getting much taller, how tall is she now?
Marco just loved all the pics, he is in LOVE! :)
She is doing well with eating.. great! Marco still doesn't drink milk with meals. He has before breakfast and after dinner(we give it to him around an hour after dinner-depending how he ate so it avoids him eating right at bedtime). I think most kids take a little bit to drink milk with meals (my nieces and nephews around Marco's age still don't).
Can't believe Marco's and Sofie's bday is coming up soon...how is the planning?
ENJOY, Marco's 2nd bday was so much fun as he was understanding more!
Hugs to that precious girl!!
